Vaccination

Vaccinating your pet is a relatively inexpensive but very important way to protect his or her health. In addition to preventing many life-threatening illnesses, vaccinations can prevent diseases prevalent in pets and those that can be passed to humans. It is important to administer vaccinations when pets are puppies and kittens because their young immune systems are still developing and need protection to remain healthy. To keep their immune system up to the date then annual vaccination is required.

Ultrasound

Our vets will often use the ultrasound machine to help with the examination of your pet. The ultrasound allows the vets to see what is happening inside your pet in a non-invasive manner.

Radiology

Here at the Our hospital, we have full radiographic imaging facilities using the latest in digital processing which allows us to have fast diagnostic results. For the radiographs to be of good quality and value, we need your animal to be perfectly still and thus in many cases, the animal may require sedation or a general anaesthetic. If you believe your pet requires a radiograph please book in for a consultation.

In-House Pathology Laboratory

We have our own modern blood machines that enable us to get results for comprehensive blood tests very quickly when required thus improving the outcome for your pet. We also have a microscope which helps provide answers for an array of medical and potentially surgical problems, for example skin/ear conditions, determining what kind of lump your pet has, if your pet has worms, identifying ticks and mites, examining urine etc.

Spay & Neuter

Spaying and neutering can help end this cycle, and both procedures can have health benefits for pets.

ECG and Echocardiography

If your pet has an unusual lump or bump, we advise that you book in for a consultation to see one of our experienced vets. The vet can then determine if surgery is required. If needed, we can also send a sample of the lump to a laboratory for testing to determine its exact nature and the likelihood of it causing further problems.

4. Orthopaedic Procedures

Our experienced veterinarians can competently perform most orthopaedic surgeries, including procedures which many other Vet Clinics would choose to refer. This allows not only for local treatment and management but also significant cost savings. Common procedures successfully performed at the clinic for more than 12 years includes:

Sometimes like ourselves, our pets require some dentistry. Here at Pets & Paws, we have the facilities to take care of all your pets’ dental health, from extractions and cleans to dental specific diets. If your pet has discoloured teeth or bad breath, please give us a call to book a consultation.

We are currently promoting dental health . While we have seen a few patients that did not require dental scaling/polishing (owners leaving with peace of mind), the vast majority have required a full clean and/or starting at-home dental health practices (e.g. dental chews).

Spaying

Spaying is a common surgical procedure performed on female cats and dogs. The process is called an ovariohysterectomy and involves removing the patient’s uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, rendering the animal incapable of reproduction. Companion Care Veterinary Hospital veterinarians recommend spaying your pet at 6 months, depending on your dog’s breed and ideally before the patient’s first heat.

What to expect after surgery

Spaying is a major surgery requiring 7-10 days of recovery time. Recovery may also include pain medication. Lethargy is common for the first couple of days following the procedure.

Neutering

Neutering is performed on male cats and dogs. This process castrates the animal, removing their testicles and making them unable to impregnate females. Neutering is advised when your pet is 6 months’ old but can be performed on older animals as well.
